FTP is short for File Transfer Protocol – en extremely popular way to transfer files between a computer system and a web server. With an FTP client program like FileZilla or CuteFTP, you can set up a connection to the server and view its content in one pane, whereas the files on your PC will be displayed in another pane within the main program window. All you will need to do to send files or entire directories in either direction is to select them and then to drag them from one pane to the other. File Transfer Protocol is preferred by a lot of users because you can set up different FTP accounts and each of them can be limited to access just one folder on the server, so a web designer, for example, can do their job without being able to access any other directory in the web hosting account. What’s more, the availability of different FTP accounts will also permit you to build numerous Internet sites using web design tools such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver and to upload them to their respective directories on the server.
