The dot SE ccTLD was started in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration process was pretty restrictive, so a very low number of domains were reserved. Individuals were permitted to reserve no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. only Swedish persons, businesses and organizations were able to book a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized considerably and, as a result, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.

Presently, anybody can book a dot SE name, which allows you to get in touch with the Swedish net community even if you do not have a local presence.
